I first came to know about Movember (and it's compatriot No Shave November) a couple years ago when I saw a few celebrities and athletes growing out their facial hair for a good cause.
Now I'm not one to fall for stupid social gimmickry under the pretense of doing good. Who can forget the famous "cartoon character display pic" fad on Facebook some time ago. What was that about? Anyone remembers? Oh right, to raise awareness of child abuse or something of the sort right?
And while the attempt to raise awareness of this societal ill was well appreciated, what eventually transpired was basically a competition to see who had the coolest display picture. Coassin' ting na!
But nevertheless, this particular venture aroused my curiosity. So what exactly is Movember? Movember is responsible for the spouting of millions of moustaches on men's faces around the world during the month of November in an effort to raise funds and awareness of various male health issues, namely prostate and testicular cancer.
The Mo represents the catalyst to bring about change and give men the opportunity to talk about and take action against the issues which affect us.
Perfect! A worthwhile venture with a twist of humour. And since I tend not to take myself too seriously and I'm not afraid of a little ridicule, I found it easy to commit to this cause.
So here we are, eleven days and a mediocre 'stache later. What personal triumphs have I accomplished? Admittedly, it's not so simple to get financial donations made via my Mo Space. However, I am aware that groups are collecting donations and contributing to the Cancer Society of Trinidad and Tobago. So why not spare some loose change for a good cause.

Way to go V! I am also doing Movember with a bunch of guys at work. We do it every year and every year cringes when it comes around ... but it is for a good cause.
